Essential Cricket, established in 2012, is a specialist manufacturer and supplier of high quality coloured and red cricket balls. Operating from our headquarters in Somerset, UK with offices in India and Australia, Essential Cricket is run by founder and director, Charlie Crossley. Charlie’s total passion, knowledge and commitment to cricket is reflected throughout our range – from product development, sourcing raw materials, overseeing production standards and conditions through to testing and responding to client feedback.
Our success at Essential Cricket is reflected in our diverse customer base – we’ll supply a single wind ball to a budding youngster or a few thousand high specification balls to the Home of Cricket. We treat every order with the same care and consideration that we always have done.
Our quality has made an impression with some prestigious cricketing venues. The Home of Cricket, The Ageas Bowl, The Swalec and Millfield School to name but a few. These clients are highly discerning and recognise and value the quality we provide. We feel honoured that our balls are being used by such trusted brands and are confident that many more Clubs, Boards, Schools or Test grounds will begin to stock our balls in the near future.
We love getting out and watching games at all levels, talking to players, coaches, umpires, groundsmen and fans. Keep an eye on our news section and follow us on Twitter for updates about where you can meet us and experience samples from our product range.
Our balls have rigorously tested so that we can judge their performance with precision. We have had support with grading through expert advice from the director of cricket at Millfield School, who put the balls through their paces with his 1stXI winter training squads. There are net balls, balls with raised and flatter seams, Indian leather and top grade ‘bends’ from the UK. If advice is required look at our guide on picking the right ball.
We believe in tradition, you kind of have to if you love Test cricket. Our red balls are traditional, but are also exceptional because of the eye for detail in the manufacturing process. We have taken great interest in all stages of production. But we have also eered from tradition with our unique range of dyed coloured leather balls, exceptional colour made with exceptional care. Tradition and non tradition, both have a place at EC.
Our balls have no bias towards any type or standard of cricket. We supplied the biggest ground in London this summer as well as Crouch End CC…We have sponsored Wellington School on their initial UAE tour, we are likely to be supplying the SCG in Australia, as well as being a supplier to the SWALEC in Wales. EC is moving because of the quality of these balls.
One of the advantages of Essential Cricket is its small company with an international reputation. Charlie Crossley, Wendy Collin and Jennifer Lusk, are the three members. Two of us are based in the Somerset in United Kingdom, one in Australia. Why is being small an advantage? We possess specialist cricketing knowledge, operate with absolute dedication, and are an immediate link between customer and manufacturer. Our partners in India are a small family run business who are fully committed to the ethos of Essential Cricket by producing high quality cricket balls.
Charlie went to his first cricket match at the age of 1 and slept in his Dads cricket bag! This primal experience fuelled a lifetime love of the game. Charlie established Essential Cricket due to his absolute passion and desire to provide the highest quality cricket balls. Throughout his career Charlie has worked tirelessly in commerce, retail and sport.
With a background in the creative and retail sectors, Wendy contributes vision and dynamism to Essential Cricket.
